Abstract
Summary: Like other protagonists of the Scientific Revolution, Johann Kepler believed in the universe as a mathematical harmony created by God. Human beings, made in image of the Creator, are provided with the means to understand the natural laws as part of revelation. This kind of vision formed an integral part of Kepler’s worldview, and allowed him to discover the famous three laws of planetary motion. In his mind, the mathematical regularity of the heavenly movements reveals the inner rationality and absolute beauty of the cosmos. Thus, the astronomer is considered a sort of priest, as his duty consists in uncovering that mathematical perfection. Moreover, the contemplation of the world is the correct approach to be adopted by
scientists, who are aware of the universal harmony as a divine gift.
