Abstract
The paper deals with the concept of life in sciences, philosophies and theologies, from an interdisciplinary and intercultural perspective.
To account for life in all the various schools of thought, systems of belief and cultures, it is argued that an analysis centred on the metaphors and metonymies of life may be useful.
Thus, various tropes related to life and the organisms are examined. In particular, the question of the divine life is tackled from the perspective of the univocal, equivocal and analogical discourse. It is suggested as a working hypothesis that the attribute of life, with regard to God, may be seen as dealing within the metonymical field.
