Abstract
Summary: An analysis of the relationship between Joseph Ratzinger and the Lutherans reveals that the German theologian was able to point out the greatest challenges between the Lutheran and the Catholic approaches to Theology. Guided by the principle of truth, and
relying on faith and reason, the article offers insights into the “holistic vision” provided by Ratzinger, which allows him to bring out the problem of the Lutheran theology: the centrality of the “I”, or of the subject, as a guiding principle. This Copernican shift leads to many consequences, which had, and still have, a strong impact on Catholic theology and which often lead to subjectivism, individualism, relativism and the loss of identity.
