Abstract
The philosophical and political aim of Machiavelli can be deciphered in his two fundamental political works, namely, The Prince and the Discourses. This aim is that of advising on the best strategy to win power (Discourses) and on how to strengthen the power of the current Prince (The Prince). Notwithstanding the fact that the Florentine writer was the first one openly to outline what Leo Strauss called political gangsterism, nevertheless, these contributions never reached the level of constituting a genuine transformation of Political Philosophy. Machiavelli is instead a political strategist.
