Resumen
Abstract: This article investigates what knowledge about God we obtain from what is sensible, in its very determinateness as sensible. The question is intimately related to reflection on how God, who is pure spirit, knows what is material and sensible. We follow Joseph de Finance in his approach to this problem in his later writings, especially his The Sensible and God [Il sensibile e Dio] (1988) and To you through you with the other [A tu per tu con l’altro] (1992). After outlining de Finance’s method of analysis, it is applied to diverse aspects of the sensible: space, time, sensible qualities, affectivity and otherness. The article concludes with an ontological valorization of the sensible in relation to our knowledge of God.
