Abstract
In The Future of human nature Jürgen Habermas begins with the recognition of our fundamental condition of equality, based on we all share a kind of spontaneity in our origin and genetic characteristics. This is really the foundation of a democratic society. Genetic manipulation would alter this original equality. Something similar is happening with extracorporeal assisted reproductive techniques. They are altering the original space-time conditions that accompany our coming into the world. If we think about a naturally conceived embryo, we cannot determine precisely what were the exact time and place in which he came into existence. The handling of this space-time conditions, does not endanger the original equality?
